E-WERK Luckenwalde

Art meets climate - E‑WERK Luckenwalde combines a heritage-listed industrial monument, renewable energy, and international contemporary art to create a visionary cultural venue. This architectural gem from 1913 - once a brown coal power station - is now a vibrant center for art, culture, and sustainable energy production. E-WERK is the world’s first art-power plant: in the turbine hall, locally sourced woodchips and pyrolysis processes generate CO₂-neutral electricity - with a share of the profits supporting artist programs. In 2019, energy production was resumed and now supplies power both to the building and the grid. The program includes exhibitions, performances, concerts, festivals, workshops, summer academies, and “Open Studios” - with around four programming cycles per year.
